Sr. Director, Network Security Engineering
Position Summary
The Sr. Director, Network Security Engineering is a visionary leader responsible for safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of McKesson’s IT infrastructure. This role drives the development and execution of enterprise-wide network security strategies, collaborating across Core, Edge Cyber, and IT Operations to ensure robust protection against evolving threats. The director partners with business and technology stakeholders to define, document, and implement security standards, architectures, and best practices, while continuously optimizing infrastructure performance and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision
Lead and inspire a team of architects and engineers to deliver scalable, flexible, and cost-effective enterprise network and firewall security solutions.
Shape and communicate a strategic roadmap for network security, anticipating future technology requirements and aligning them with organizational goals.
Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and proactive risk management within the security engineering function.
Oversee and manage the network security budget for each fiscal year, aligning resource allocation with market trends, industry benchmarks, and evolving threat landscapes to ensure optimal investment in infrastructure resilience and compliance.
Architecture & Solution Delivery
Design and implement robust, future-ready network security architectures that meet performance, scalability, and compliance requirements.
Integrate Zero Trust principles, micro-segmentation, and identity-based controls across hybrid and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OCI).
Oversee the deployment and management of advanced security technologies, including firewalls (Palo Alto, F5), Zscaler (ZIA & ZPA), Network Access Control (NAC), and intrusion prevention systems.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with IT, business, and cybersecurity teams to understand needs, define objectives, and deliver solutions that support enterprise priorities.
Build strong relationships with leadership and cross-functional teams, communicate strategic recommendations, and provide technical guidance.
Coordinate with peers to define cases, goals, and architectures that support business transformation and operational excellence.
Operational Excellence
Optimize network and firewall performance, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
Lead infrastructure security evaluations, testing, and incident response, driving continuous improvement in security posture.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex network and firewall issues, leveraging advanced diagnostics and automation.
Minimum Requirements
10+ years of professional experience with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management.
Governance & Compliance
Develop, document, and enforce IT infrastructure security standards, policies, and procedures.
Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and internal audit findings.
Manage inventory and policy standards for enterprise firewalls, VPNs, and network devices.
Talent Development & Mentorship
Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to team members, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing.
Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within the security engineering organization.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field;
advanced degree is a plus.
