Bilingual Interpreter and Translator

Location: Northeastern Alberta (Fort Chipewyan)

Responsibilities

Provide on-site, face-to-face and telephone interpretation for clients in various settings.

Translate documents, maintaining the original material's content, context, and style.

Prior experience or formal training and testing in interpretation or translation is preferred but not required.

Relay concepts and ideas between languages effectively.

Ensure that all interpretations and translations are accurate, clear, and unbiased.

Help to foster positive relationships with community members and partners through a commitment to excellent customer service.

Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information at all times.

Collaborate with other interpreters and translators to support large-scale community projects.

Stay updated with relevant terminology, language trends, and cultural nuances.

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Working proficiency in English and one (or more) other languages, with strong verbal and written skills.

Candidates must be able to travel either by car or public transportation to the location of any in-person assignments.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Legally authorized to work in Canada and must reside in Fort McMurray.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

A university diploma or equivalent and relevant certification in linguistics or language studies is a plus.
