About Our Opportunity

As the Supply Technician 2, you will be responsible for the procurement of goods and services for the Shubenacadie fleet operation and parts/supply requests to support off-site servicing or repair. Through this opportunity, you will have opportunity to see and familiarize yourself with the equipment that maintains our Province.

You will proactively determine the items required for the stock rooms, initiate requisitions and orders to replenish the inventory and maintain optimum inventory stock levels. You will ensure our inventory is fully prepped and readily available to meet operational needs by promoting the standardization of procurement, working with fleet personnel to establish specifications for parts and coordinating equipment purchases, disposals and parts records.

You will also work closely with the Fleet Coordinator when considering best value procurement strategies to ensure the fleet operating budget is maintained, and meaningful control systems are implemented.

Building strong relationships with vendors and suppliers will be crucial for you in this role. You will work with various stakeholders across the Province including the Nova Scotia Government Purchasing Agency, Department of Finance, Enforcement Division of NSE, Mechanical Branches and supplier representatives and vendors.

This position will report to the Fleet Service Coordinator.

Qualifications and Experience

You have completed high school and have post‐secondary training related to the position, and five (5) years related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

You have mechanical and technical knowledge of heavy equipment. You also have the ability to understand complex information and use this knowledge to make decisions or provide advice in regard to procuring and supplying parts for inventory. Knowledge of government purchasing policies, procedures, warehousing, and inventory control is considered an asset.

You have a working knowledge of computerized inventory systems and computer programs such as:

• ARI/GMS(Garage Management Systems)
• Word
• Excel
• Fleet Freedom
• Pro Fuel

You have proven and professional communication skills, both oral and written, which allows you to collaborate and build relationships with Department and Supplier representatives. You have well developed planning and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and strict deadlines. You are a forward and innovative thinker, who is solutions oriented. Your sound judgement skills are essential in determining stock level requirements that realize optimum benefits and efficiency.

A Canadian Professional Purchasing designation or a trade certification in Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Equipment/Truck and Transport Repair or Small Gas Engine Repair Technician or equivalent is considered an asset.

We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
