Location: Smithers
The Town of Smithers is seeking an Engagement and Communications Officer to spearhead community-focused communication projects. This crucial role operates Monday through Friday, emphasizing civic engagement.
You will be reporting to the Director of Community Services, playing a key role in developing and executing a comprehensive communication plan. This position demands leadership in coordinating teams, conducting research, and formulating effective engagement strategies. Candidates with a public relations background and media relations expertise will be preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement strategic communications plans
• Lead public engagement projects with stakeholders
• Conduct research on community engagement practices
• Represent the municipality in public forums
• Create and distribute communications materials
Requirements:
• University degree in a relevant field
• Three or more years in communications
• At least two years in public engagement and media relations
• Preferably hold IAP2 Certification
• Valid BC Class 5 License needed
Drive the Town of Smithers' communications strategy and foster a culture of engagement within the community.
