VisionStatement
To reach a goal of a healthy self, healthy dibenjikewin (family), and a healthy community. Our ancestors held everything sacred and thanked Kishe-Manido (Creator) for all that had been given, including the foundation to guide a strong community composed of healthy dibenjikewinan(families) who are raising awaashishag (children) and/or oshkaadizag (youth) grounded in their culture and language.
Position SummaryThe KIDO Minoyaawibimoojikewinan (Prevention—healthy programming) Coordinator is a full-time position based in KI with a focus on healthy living, cultural traditions, and prevention programming/events; amweziizik – before concerns happen. This position is designated for someone who would be recognized by KI Chief and Council and the fellow members as a person of KI who are wise and use their traditional knowledge to help people.
This position also requires organizational skills to carry out events, conduct ceremonies and provide guidance to all KIDO staff that are involved in Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) services for KI awaashishag, oshkaadizag and dibenjikewin. (children, youth and families) The KIDO Minoyaawibimoojikewinan Coordinator responsibilities include daily office duties to organize and keep track of their events. They will be called upon to share their knowledge for guidance and assist with KIDO events both in KI and off-KI.
These events will be centred on prevention and healthy dibenjikewinan living, but also include working with oshkaadizag (youth) and dibenjikewinan and community mmebers in times of crisis. Communication and travel between all KIDO Unit office locations is required, and could include attending case-specific events, trainign for other KI departments and programming with and for other service providers. This position will carrry out the KIDO vision, mission and principles, and will report to the KIDO Assistant Director (KI) and will be in regular contact with the KIDO Director.
Updates to the Dibenjikewin Oganawenjikeg Opimojiketamaakeg (“DOO”) Board of KIDO will be required.
- Develop a plan to organize different KI traditional ceremonies and cultural events to be available for Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach, such as annual celebrations of newborns of KI.
- Must collaborate with other KIDO employees to as required when coordinating prevention and healthy dibenjikewinan living events, crisis support, and oshkaadizag programming.
- Providing a forum for KI community members and others with knowledge grounded in kayaash egwa miina ahchaako kikinohamaakewinan (traditional and spiritual teachings of KI) to help guide all events to address the needs of Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach.
