Responsibilities
  • Practice autonomously to diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals, and perform procedures within the legislated scope of practice.
  • Provide direct patient care and partner with other members of the health care team.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Adhere to the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) Standards for Nursing Practice and the Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain accountability for own practice consistent with relevant legislation, professional, and ethical standards.
  • Identify, analyze, and evaluate activities for quality improvement initiatives.
  • Work autonomously and collaborate as appropriate with professionals and teams in mutual support.
Qualifications
  • Graduate Nurse Practitioner or one who will be completing studies within the next 12 months.
  • Accredited nursing education and registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and quality improvement.
Recruitment Incentives
  • Successful candidates may be eligible for a $5,000 – $10,000 signing bonus.
  • Up to $15,000 for rural placements with a defined Return of Service contract.
Compensation & Benefits

Hourly pay: $59.47 – $69.52, increasing to $71.96 with 25 years' experience.

Defined benefit pension plan and enrollment in the Provincial Pension Plan.

Shift and weekend premiums, premiums for completing Master’s Degree in Nursing.

Continuous clinical education and support, opportunity for advancement within the organization.

Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program: up to $30,000 in forgiveness over a maximum of five years for qualified Nurse Practitioners.

Hours
  • Permanent, assignments (temporary), casual relief opportunities in various locations throughout Nova Scotia.
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
