Position Overview  Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking an experienced Specialty Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, evidence-based emergency nursing care in a fast-paced Level 2 Emergency Department environment. This role requires robust clinical expertise, critical thinking, leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex and unpredictable patient care situations.
The Specialty RN is responsible for coordinating and directing patient care, collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, providing clinical leadership, and ensuring compliance with NSHA policies, procedures, and documentation standards.

Key Responsibilities   Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring complex and specialized emergency services.
Assess, triage, monitor, and manage patients presenting with acute, critical, and emergent conditions.
Provide clinical leadership and support within the Emergency Department.
Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
Utilize evidence-based nursing practices to achieve optimal patient and family outcomes.
Respond effectively to trauma, pediatric, cardiac, and critical care emergencies.
Perform accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with NSHA standards.
Participate in patient assessments, care planning, interventions, and evaluations.
Support quality improvement initiatives and patient safety practices.
Maintain professional nursing standards, ethical practices, and regulatory compliance.
Mandatory Qualifications   Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN or BSN) from an accredited institution.
RN Licensure
Current Registered Nurse licensure eligible to practice in Nova Scotia.
Certifications
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
BLS (Basic Life Support)
CTAS (Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale)
EPICC Trauma or TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) or EPICC Pediatrics
Experience
Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience.
Minimum 2 years of experience working in a Level 2 Emergency Department.
Experience providing care in high-acuity and fast-paced emergency environments.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex patient populations and emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications   Preference will be given to candidates with advanced training and clinical experience in:
Emergency Nursing
Critical Care Nursing
Cardiac Care Nursing
Trauma Care
Advanced Emergency Assessment and Stabilization
Acute Care Nursing
Required Skills & Competencies   Advanced emergency nursing assessment and intervention skills.
Strong triage and patient prioritization abilities.
Knowledge of emergency, trauma, pediatric, and cardiac care protocols.
Critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently and within interdisciplinary teams.

Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Proficiency in electronic health records and clinical documentation.
Ability to adapt to changing clinical priorities and high-pressure situations.

Exposure to high-acuity, trauma, pediatric, cardiac, and critical care patients.
