Position Overview
Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Specialty Registered Nurse (RN) to provide advanced nursing care in specialized clinical settings. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering comprehensive patient care, providing clinical leadership, and supporting interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure optimal patient and family outcomes. This role is ideal for nurses with experience managing complex patient populations and working in fast‑paced, acute care environments where critical thinking, clinical expertise, and sound judgment are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Provide safe, competent, and evidence‑based nursing care to patients with complex and specialized healthcare needs.
Assume responsibility for the overall coordination, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
Deliver clinical leadership and professional guidance within specialized care environments.
Assess, monitor, and respond effectively to changing patient conditions and complex clinical situations.
Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
Advocate for patients and families while supporting informed decision‑making and care planning.
Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive patient documentation in accordance with Nova Scotia Health Authority policies and standards.
Participate in patient and family education initiatives to support health promotion and recovery.
Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management initiatives within the unit.
Support the efficient and effective operation of the clinical service area through collaboration and professional engagement.
Adhere to all regulatory, professional, and organizational standards of nursing practice.
Required Qualifications
Current registration and licensure as a Registered Nurse in good standing.
Eligibility to practice nursing within the Province of Nova Scotia.
Demonstrated experience in a specialty nursing environment involving complex patient care.
Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision‑making skills.
Experience working in multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative care model.
Commitment to evidence‑based practice, patient‑centered care, and continuous professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous travel nursing experience.
Experience in acute care, critical care, emergency, specialty medicine, surgical, or other specialized clinical settings.
Current certifications relevant to specialty nursing practice (e.g., ACLS, BLS, specialty certifications).
Experience with electronic health records and clinical documentation systems.
