Aakom-Kiyii Health Services - Registered Nurse (RN)
General Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers direct clinical care and wellness support for participants at Aakom-Kiyii Health Services (AKHS). This includes providing nursing assessments, medication administration, and detox support, while also participating in community health promotion. Guided by trauma-informed and culturally safe practices, the RN plays a central role in client care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Provide nursing care including assessments, wound care, and medication administration
- Support clients during detox, monitoring vitals and managing withdrawal symptoms
- Collaborate with medical and wellness teams to ensure continuity of care
- Maintain accurate, confidential clinical documentation
- Participate in health promotion and outreach events
- Assist with intake and discharge planning for detox clients
- Respond to emergencies and provide medical stabilization
- Adhere to infection control standards and safety protocols
- Engage in continuous learning and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
Skills and Abilities
- Skilled in clinical assessments, medication administration, and care planning
- Knowledge of detox protocols, chronic disease management, and infection prevention
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Effective in crisis response, trauma-informed care, and de-escalation techniques
- Emotionally resilient and able to work in high-pressure environments
- Familiarity with Piikani Nation governance, culture, and language is an asset
- Proficient in electronic medical records and clinical systems
- Completion of accredited nursing education program
- Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
- Current BCLS-HCP certification
- Experience in community, addiction, or harm-reduction settings is preferred
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Competent with Microsoft 365 and EMR systems
