HIRING Farm Manager – Organic Livestock & Mixed Farm
PICTON, ONTARIO
Edwin County Farms is a family-owned, Ontario-based working farm producing certified organic beef, maple syrup, heritage grains (wheat and spelt), and organic produce. The farm supplies food directly to The Royal Hotel and is committed to responsible land stewardship, animal welfare, and supporting local farm-to-table food systems.
The Role
This is a hands-on Farm Manager role suited to an experienced Ontario cattle farmer who is comfortable running a diversified operation. You will oversee day-to-day farm operations while working closely with the owners and a small on-site team. This is not a desk job—practical decision-making and time in the field are essential.
Primary Responsibilities
Beef & Livestock
Lead the organic beef program in collaboration with the livestock manager
Pasture and feed planning suited to Ontario conditions
Animal health, herd improvement, and welfare
Coordinate slaughter and delivery to The Royal Hotel
Support organic certification records (administrative support provided)
Pasture, Hay & Field Crops
Assess and improve pasture productivity and grazing systems
Oversee hay cutting, baling, storage, and winter feed readiness
Plan, plant, and harvest heritage wheat and spelt
Coordinate custom operators or contractors as needed
Maple Syrup Production
Lead maple syrup production from tapping to bottling
Maintain sugar bush, tubing, RO system, and wood-fired evaporator
Coordinate seasonal labour during maple season
Equipment & Infrastructure
Ensure tractors, implements, fencing, and farm equipment are maintained
Coordinate repairs and service contractors when required
What We’re Looking For
5+ years of hands-on farm management experience, including cattle
Strong working knowledge of organic production systems
Comfortable with Ontario climate, seasons, and physical farm work
Practical, reliable, and solutions-oriented
Valid Ontario/Canadian driver’s license
Legally eligible to work in Canada
Why This Role
Established, respected organic farm
Direct connection between land, livestock, and table
Supportive ownership that values farmer input
Long-term opportunity for the right farm manager
SALARY RANGE
$70K – $85K, commensurate on experience.
