Research Technician in Smithers, BC

Location: Smithers

Make a difference in wildlife conservation as a Research Technician with the BC Public Service in Smithers, BC. Contribute through fieldwork, data analysis, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

This temporary role has a duration until March 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension. You will support wildlife habitat modelling while engaging with Indigenous Nations and conducting field data collection. The position requires a blend of technical skills and outdoor work, particularly in managing critical ecological data and resources.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute field measurements and data collection activities

• Conduct data quality control and reporting for projects

• Collaborate with biologists and First Nations on studies

• Utilize ArcGIS for mapping and analysis tasks

• Conduct fieldwork in varying conditions across remote locations

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in natural resources or equivalent experience

• Minimum three years related experience in the field

• Valid BC driver’s license with safety standard compliance

• Experience with terrestrial ecosystem mapping

• Skills in using Program R for data analysis
