About the Organization
The National Diabetes Trust is Canada’s largest charitable clothing and small household goods collection service. With more than 5,000 donation bins and an active home pick‑up service across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items, using them to raise funds for Diabetes Canada. Each year the program diverts more than 100 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfills.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Charitable Donations Pickup Driver to support our operations. The role is part‑time, up to 29 hours per week, and involves driving established routes to collect donated items from customers’ homes and designated bins, then delivering them to corporate partners and storage facilities.
Responsibilities
Promote the mission of the National Diabetes Trust to the public and volunteers.
Operate vehicles safely and in compliance with applicable laws.
Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
Complete and submit required paperwork daily.
Maintain accurate Hours‑of‑Service logs.
Carry proof of valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and inspection documents.
Check in with dispatch at the start, mid‑day, and end of routes.
Provide message cards to donors and log all pick‑ups.
Unload merchandise as instructed and return equipment to the office.
Report route discrepancies and ensure only authorized personnel ride in the truck.
Participate in required driver training and related initiatives.
Perform additional duties as needed to support operations.
Qualifications
Grade 12 education or equivalent experience.
Ability to read maps and handle 10–50 lb loads.
Ability to drive a 3‑ton (16‑foot) straight truck.
Strong organizational skills and efficient route planning.
Professional, positive image and excellent customer‑service skills.
Good command of the English language.
Full Class 5 and/or G licence or higher, passenger car or light truck.
Minimum five years of actual driving experience at this level (two years if professional commercial vehicle training received).
Clean driver abstract, less than 21 days old, with no violations or accidents within the last three years.
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
