Job SummaryThe Field Safety Specialists provide safety leadership to ensure compliance with corporate and industry safety standards, implement safety directives, assist with training program, improve safety performance, and ensure safety policies and procedures are aligned with governmental regulations.
Duties/Responsibilities- Perform safety and equipment audits, and yard inspections, to identify/correct potential hazards and ensure safety regulation compliance. Includes company equipment, vehicles, facilities, job sites, and safety equipment.
- Provide a detailed written description and documentation of all job site visits.
- Maintain an exemplary example of driving safety.
- Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on risk reduction, hazard analysis, company safety initiatives, programs and procedures.
- Assist in job site accidents, near‑miss and occupational injury investigations to determine probable root causes and make recommendations for corrective action.
- Assist in employee safety programs to determine adequacy including input on short and long‑term strategic safety planning and development.
- Identify best practices and assist in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process errors (WPE), raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.
- Cultivate a work environment that supports our safety culture.
- Daily employee interface.
- Ability to travel daily for an undetermined amount of time and mileage.
- Participate in the development of strategic vision and establishment of processes for the safety program.
- 40+ hours per week, which may include nights, weekends, and travel.
- Possess and demonstrate a working knowledge of incident investigation and reporting.
- Promote a coaching based safety behavior.
- Encourage collaborative solution resolution.
- Prioritizes workload independently based on department priorities and goals.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Ability to work effectively individually and in a collaborative environment.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely, and directly.
- High school diploma, craft training or associate degree related to construction safety.
- 3 years of field experience.
- Current OSHA 10 Construction.
- Current OSHA 30 Construction.
- Current OSHA‑7505:
Introduction to Incident (Accident) Investigation. - Working knowledge of underground utility electric, civil and gas distribution construction (at least three years) safety.
- Competency and experience in construction safety, incident investigation, cause analysis, hazard analysis, incident reporting, field‑based observations and coaching, and record/document control.
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
- Lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception.
