We are looking for an experienced leader in culinary operations to manage our dining services while ensuring the highest standards of food quality, safety, and resident satisfaction.
Job OverviewThe Lead Cook prepares and serves food in accordance with menus, diet specifications, resident preferences, and sanitary practices. The role supports the Food and Nutrition Services Manager (FNSM) or Dining Services Manager (DSM) by overseeing the dining experience, staffing, and training of cooks and dietary aides.
Responsibilities- Prepare, cook, and serve food in line with menu and nutrition standards, including presentation, taste, and texture.
- Ensure foods are cooked and held at the appropriate temperatures, recording temperatures throughout processes.
- Partner with the supervisor to review menus and record substitutions.
- Maintain food supply readiness, notifying the supervisor of needed items.
- Keep the work area clean and safe; assist in daily and scheduled cleaning.
- Store, rotate, prepare, and label food following federal, state, and local guidelines and Prestige policy.
- Collaborate with dietary staff to ensure equipment functions properly and record temperatures as needed, reporting faults immediately.
- Follow facility fire safety, infection control, and hazardous chemical practices; report unsafe conditions promptly.
- Partner with leadership to plan and prepare special meals, events, and parties.
- Assist in storing incoming food and supplies as assigned.
- Work with FNSM or DSM to order supplies for menus and events.
- Participate in interviewing, scheduling, onboarding, and development of cooks and dietary aides.
- Help create and maintain schedules that balance staffing needs with requested time off.
- Provide on‑call support for staffing coordination and team questions.
- Attend training, in‑services, and staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of one to two years in culinary or dietary service within a restaurant, hospital, or similar health‑care environment.
- Compliance with job‑related health‑department or state regulations, holding required certifications or licenses; willingness to obtain Serve Safe certification.
- Proficiency in reading written menus and directions, comprehending verbal instructions, and communicating at an appropriate written level.
Upon mastery of the Lead Cook role, you may advance to the Dining Services Manager or other health‑care positions within Prestige Care.
