Performing Arts Technician – Independent Secondary School – Canterbury

This well-established independent 11–18 secondary school in Canterbury is recognised for its academic excellence and outstanding creative arts provision. The school places strong emphasis on drama, music, and performance as part of a balanced curriculum.

The campus includes a fully equipped theatre, rehearsal studios, professional lighting rigs, sound systems, and AV equipment. Students participate in regular productions, concerts, and community performances. Leadership invests heavily in technical infrastructure to maintain professional standards.

To support its expanding performing arts programme, the school is seeking a skilled and reliable Performing Arts Technician.

Role Overview

The Performing Arts Technician will manage technical support for productions, assemblies, and events.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating and maintaining lighting and sound equipment
  • Supporting rehearsals and live performances
  • Managing stage setup and dismantling
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance
  • Maintaining technical inventory
  • Assisting students with technical training
  • Troubleshooting technical issues
  • Supporting school-wide events
  • Coordinating backstage logistics
  • Liaising with teaching staff and external contractors

Flexibility is required during production periods, including occasional evening work.

Performing Arts Team

The technician works closely with the Head of Performing Arts and music/drama teachers. The department runs multiple productions annually.
