The Art Teacher plays a key role in delivering an inspiring, high-quality art education across the Prep and Senior Schools, aligned with the English National Curriculum and the school’s broader vision for holistic learning. The role exists to cultivate creativity, artistic skills, and confidence in all students, while contributing to cross-curricular learning through collaboration with teachers and curriculum leaders. The Art Teacher ensures a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment, promotes strong safeguarding practices, and builds positive partnerships with families and the wider community.

As an ambassador for KSV, the Art Teacher models professionalism, upholds school values, and actively contributes to the cultural life of the school through exhibitions, events, and community engagement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • PEDAGODY AND CURRICULUM
  • Thorough knowledge of the requirements of the English National Curriculum (ENC) with an interest or experience in other curriculum forms (such as the IPC) a benefit.
  • Innovative and progressive; welcoming the chance to work with peers and leaders in developing and delivering an outstanding blended Prep and senior curriculums.
  • Develop and deliver outstanding, inspirational art classes.
  • Promote art within the school and within the community by creating opportunities for the children, their families and the wider community.
  • Provide ongoing support for classroom teachers, giving feedback and observations of the children within the art specialist classroom.
  • Work with the IPC coordinator and other leaders to plan theme related learning and share ideas how to incorporate art into the children’s daily learning.
  • Ability to define effective measures and record-keeping for the performance of pupils and classes and to keep these measures under systematic review.
  • A collegiate approach, especially with regard to interactions with colleagues and planning, ensuring that all children develop to their full potential.
  • Good organisational skills to create and maintain a stimulating and attractive learning environment.
  • Use of a range of behaviour management techniques and strategies, adapting them as necessary to promote the self- control and independence of learners.

  • Excellent knowledge in the area of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Maintain the highest standards of care, building positive relationships and ensuring that each child has a sense of belonging within their classroom and learning environment.
  • Evidence of a commitment to excellence and the maximising of academic and personal achievements of all pupils, including those with additional needs.
  • PARTNERSHIP WITH FAMILIES AND WIDER COMMUNITY
  • Build authentic relationships with families, knowing they can lead to greater learning outcomes for children.
  • Communicate with families and the wider community about the Prep and Senior art curriculums, including open days, presentations, workshops and parent meetings.
  • Be an ambassador for KSV and The King’s School, Canterbury, both in Phnom Penh and more broadly.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree with relevant teaching qualifications and certificates.
  • Primary education or art related degree.
  • English (Native language or proficiency).
  • Prior experience of preparing groups of children for exhibitions and staging exhibitions in schools
  • Experience in teaching primary/Prep and/or Senior education in the UK or Ireland (state or independent sectors).
  • Experience working in multi-cultural or international settings.
  • Familiarity with School Management Information Systems and an open mind to the use of data in schools, together with a willingness to learn new systems. Confident in Microsoft Office.
  • Growth mind-set for continuous professional improvement to meet or exceed expectations.
  • Strong ability to embrace change and to work to tight timelines.
  • Embrace agency and accountability.
