Small classes. Big impact. Your infinite backyard.
Are you an outdoor enthusiast with a passion for shaping young minds? Waihi School—a co‑educational, independent preparatory school in rural South Canterbury—is looking for a dynamic outdoor education lead to lead our signature practical programme for our enthusiastic primary‑aged students (Years 4–8).
At Waihi, outdoor education isn’t a theory lesson; it’s a hands‑on, muddy‑boots experience that our students rank as one of their favourite parts of school life. From the banks of the Waihi River to our on‑site pump track, you will have the freedom to design a curriculum that reflects your passions and expertise.
The roleAs our outdoor education lead, you will plan and deliver a programme that builds confidence and curiosity. You will cover core skills like risk management, water safety, and outdoor survival while leading excursions such as hiking, mountain biking, or rock climbing.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a registered (or eligible) NZ teacher.
- Untrained teachers considered:
While a recognised qualification in outdoor education is a plus, we are open to considering untrained candidates who possess significant industry experience and a passion for the outdoors. - Brings a broad skillset—whether it's water sports, orienteering, or campfire building.
- Thrives on building strong relationships and contributing to the wider life of a boarding prep school.
Ready to make your mark on our 118‑year history? We warmly welcome prospective applicants to get in touch for a confidential chat or to arrange a visit to see our beautiful 10‑hectare campus in action.
