About The Role

Big ideas start in your classroom - Join us as a Social Sciences Lecturer

As a Lecturer in Psychology and Sociology within the Sixth Form at EKC Canterbury College, you’ll inspire learners to explore human behaviour, social structures and contemporary issues, helping them develop critical thinking and analytical skills that prepare them for university, employment and beyond.

In this role, you will:
  • Deliver engaging teaching, training and assessment across Psychology and Sociology programmes
  • Create stimulating learning experiences that bring theory to life through discussion, research and real-world examples
  • Support learners to reach their full potential through academic guidance and personalised support
  • Lead on designated study programmes and/or courses, shaping curriculum content and delivery
  • Design, deliver and evaluate programmes to ensure outstanding teaching, learning and student outcomes

Hours per week: 22

Salary per year: £21,470 up to £23,522

About You

You’ll be a highly organised and creative educator, with the ability to plan and deliver engaging, innovative lessons that inspire learners. You’ll have strong interpersonal skills, a positive and empathetic approach, and the confidence to manage a classroom effectively. Tracking student progress and using this to plan targeted support and interventions will be a key part of your role.

Ideally, you’ll have experience teaching or delivering training in the workplace, although this isn’t essential as full training will be provided. You’ll be able to teach across Level 1 to Level 3 programmes and motivate learners to achieve and succeed in their studies.

Please note that there are two salary scale points for our Lecturer positions. All candidates will start at the introductory salary scale point unless certain criteria are met. Lecturers will normally move up to the highest salary scale once one full academic year of teaching for our group is complete. Lecturers must be in post by 1st September in any given year to qualify and this is subject to approval.

Therefore, internal applicants in the same role may qualify for the higher salary scale, although should seek clarification.
