Position: Learning Support Coordinator (Southern)

Area / composite (Years 1–15), Certificated teacher

English, Health and physical education, Learning languages, Mathematics and statistics, Science, Social sciences, Technology, Te reo Māori, The arts

  • Based in a Southern Regional Office:
    Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill or Queenstown

You will work closely with team leaders learning support, kaiako, learning support kaimahi, whānau, and external agencies to ensure the right support is in place at the right time.

Your work will include:

Coordinating learning support

  • Identify ākonga who would benefit from additional support
  • Coordinate appropriate interventions and specialist services
  • Ensure support is timely, well-planned, and responsive to need

Supporting inclusive teaching practice

  • Work alongside kaiako to adapt teaching approaches
  • Share practical strategies that support diverse learners
  • Help build confidence and capability in inclusive practice

Strengthening systems and planning

  • Maintain clear, coordinated learning support plans
  • Ensure systems are consistent and work effectively for learners
  • Support smooth transitions across learning stages
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with whānau as partners in learning
  • Provide additional support in more complex situations
  • Keep communication clear, practical, and focused on outcomes

You are an experienced educator who understands how to support diverse learners in meaningful ways.

  • New Zealand teacher registration and current New Zealand teachers practicing certificate and a strong understanding of curriculum frameworks
  • Proven experience supporting ākonga with diverse or complex learning needs
  • A strong commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive education
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, solution-focused approach
  • Confidence working with learning support systems, data, and inter-agency processes
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with kaiako, whānau, and external agencies
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple supports at once
