Position

Early Years Chef – Bright Horizons Canterbury Day Nursery and Preschool

Salary: £28,776 - £39,289 per annum (dependent on qualification and experience)

Location:

Canterbury, Kent

Role Overview

Prepare, cook, and present age‑appropriate food for all children in the nursery while minimising wastage. Ensure all dietary requirements are met and communicated to staff and parents, and work in partnership with the nursery team to promote a healthy and nutritious diet.

Lead cookery club sessions for children and support other nursery activities such as BBQs, fêtes, and staff meetings.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, cook and present meals for the children according to dietary requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of dietary needs and communicate these to staff and parents.
  • Lead cookery club sessions, encouraging participation and learning in cooking.
  • Assist with extracurricular events (e.g., BBQs, fêtes) that involve food preparation.
  • Support other nursery activities as required, including staff meetings.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a cooking role, either domestic or commercial.
  • Passion for nutrition and ability to inspire healthy eating.
  • Sound knowledge of managing different dietary requirements, especially food allergies.
  • Food Safety CIEH L2 or equivalent – mandatory certification to be passed on day
    1.
  • Knowledge of COSHH.
  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues, children and parents.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
