  • Strategic role leading current curriculum changes
  • Serving a capable and connected semi‑rural community which is growing fast
  • Strong staff culture, supportive community, gains to be made.

We’re seeking a values‑driven leader with credible mana, an inclusive team player who enjoys working with the full range of people in a school community; someone with a mindset and skillset for significant leadership in a changing world.

The primary focus for this role is leading us through the current and incoming curriculum and associated changes from Years 7‑13. Other portfolio aspects can be negotiated within our team of three DPs and will include some pastoral oversight. Strong knowledge of the Year 7‑8 curriculum, Māori, KAMAR and our rural character would be preferred. Over time, we would expect to rotate portfolio foci.

Te Kura Tuarua o Tawera / Darfield High School serves a huge rural rohe from the alps to near the city, between the Waimakariri and Rakaia rivers. As urban Selwyn spreads west, our roll will grow substantially. Being the only secondary school in our kāhui means we aim to meet the needs and aspirations of all of our students, so a curriculum with pathways is vital and it’s our vision that it draws on the privileges of our position in the Taumutu takiwā.

We’re looking for someone with enough prior knowledge of these elements, and the innate qualities of service leadership, who will have the potential to weave our character and people into the emerging curriculum in line with our school’s vision.

Specific responsibilities and start date will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Feel free to make direct contact with our principal, Andy England, to discuss the role in confidence:  or aeool.nz
