Fire Marshal Officer; Casual

Canterbury City Council is looking for a number of Fire Marshal officers to work on a casual contract basis.

If you are looking for extra income then this role could be what you are looking for. The council takes fire safety very seriously and is looking for Fire Marshal Officers employed on a casual contract for its high rise, sheltered and other large buildings when required

• £15.00 per hour
• This is a casual contract so you can choose the available shifts that suit your work-life balance.
• Mileage allowance will be paid if you have to travel between work locations
• Extra income to top up your earnings

This role.is to provide fire marshalling service in Council owned buildings. This includes sheltered schemes and high rise as well as other council owned buildings. It will be a waking night shift to provide a visible and reassuring presence for residents, responding effectively to alarms and emergencies, and help keep people safe. Informed and confident in their surroundings

Here’s what you’ll get up to:

• Carry out routine checks of the building to ensure fire exits are unobstructed and operational.
• Carry out routine checks of the building to ensure fire doors are closed.
• Identify and report fire hazards, including poor housekeeping or unsafe storage.
• Assist with fire drills andmaintainawareness of procedures across the site.
• Support residents in the event of an alarm in accordance with the fire safety plan for the building.
• Assistvulnerable people during evacuation and carry out roll calls at assembly points.
• Liaise with emergency services and Central Control as required.

• There will be a choice of shifts including day and night including weekends and bank holidays
• This is a casual contract so there is no guarantee of regular shifts, as the work will be reactive
• You will work from locations across the Canterbury district which includes Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay and occasionally the sheltered schemes in the surrounding villages

Your experience

• Experience of dealing with a range of customers and complex situations
• Able to communicate tactfully and effectively with the public
• Ability to work effectively aspartof a team as well as onyourown
• Abilitytomaintaina high levelof attention to detail
• Educated to GCSE level with a minimum C in English and Mathematics
• Have a full driving licence and own transport or able to travel in an equivalent timeframe
• Due to the nature of the role, this post requires an Enhanced DBS check.
