Acute Inpatient Registered Nurse – RN – Dialysis

Location:

MUST HAVE DIALYSIS EXPERIENCE!

Purpose and scope: The Inpatient RN provides direct patient care in accordance with company policies and procedures including FMCNA compliance and contracted hospitals’ policies. Areas of practice include, but are not limited to, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies, apheresis, and ultrafiltration. The Inpatient RN partners with the hospital to provide quality care and a positive patient experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under limited supervision, apply knowledge to perform a broad range of tasks including direct patient care in multiple modalities.
  • Supervise and direct Patient Care Technicians, clerical staff, and ICU staff for CRRT.
  • Provide direct patient care for assigned patients in the Inpatient Renal Replacement and Apheresis Services, applying appropriate treatment techniques.
  • Assess patients’ responses to therapy, adjusting plans as indicated by physicians, and communicate concerns to the Program Manager, physician, nurse, and others.
  • Deliver safe, effective care promptly and efficiently.
  • Provide organized, concise shift reports and adjust patient schedules to meet critical needs.
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document intradialytic transfusions and report adverse reactions.
  • Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to interpret, adjust, and coordinate daily care plans.
  • Initiate and communicate with FMS facility nursing staff and hospital personnel as needed.
  • Accurately document all treatment information in ACES and the hospital record.
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis equipment and surroundings between treatments.
  • Prepare for dialysis treatments and perform pre‑treatment machine alarm testing.
  • Operate related equipment safely and troubleshoot as necessary.
  • Document dialysis and apheresis machine safety tests, calibrations, and disinfection.
  • Participate in QAI activities, staff meetings, and training sessions.
  • Serve as subject matter expert to hospital staff for dialysis‑related complications.
  • Report incidents, complaints, or problems per Adverse Event Report requirements.
  • Assist with various projects as assigned by supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Perform essential functions with potential exposure to infectious materials and need for heavy lifting up to >200 lbs with assistance.
  • Take Ishihara’s Color Blindness test; accommodations possible.
  • Provide direct patient care, interaction with clinical staff, and travel between hospitals and events.
  • On‑call rotation including nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
Supervision
  • Direct supervision of Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff; education for ICU staff on CRRT.
Education
  • Current state licensure.
  • Maintain knowledge and stay current in nephrology, especially inpatient care.
  • Meet state practice requirements.
  • Certification in Nephrology Nursing, Apheresis Nursing, or both encouraged.
Experience and Required Skills
  • One year RN experience and required nursing skills.
  • Minimum 6 months nephrology experience before independent dialysis care.
  • Minimum 6 months nephrology experience before independent apheresis care.
  • Strong assessment skills for critically ill patients.
  • ICU experience preferred.
  • Completed training in ESRD patient care – Progressive Renal Education Preparation.
  • BLS CPR recognition; ACLS CPR preferred.
  • Organizational and time‑management skills; commitment to ongoing nephrology education.
  • Leadership skills and ability to supervise staff.
  • Completed Nurse Technical Training.
