MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or satisfactory completion of a General Education Development (GED) testing program; valid Georgia Class B CDL Drivers License with P & S endorsements: to be acquired within 90 days of employment or as scheduling permits. Minimum of two years experience as Technician or seven years of equivalent work experience in medium/heavy-duty truck repair is preferred. Availability to answer emergency calls at all hours, including off-hours.

Desire to advance in knowledge through CCSD approved training programs. 80% mastery on CCSD skill Vehicle Technician Job Performance Evaluation Observation Instrument. ASE Certification in 3 of the 7 listed:
Drive Train;
Brakes, Suspension & Steering;
Diesel Engine;
Electrical/Electronic;
Body Systems; A/C Controls. Must be willing to work in undesirable locations/conditions. Must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions and perform work assignments in a timely and effective manner. Must be able to work well with others. General computer skills required. Work Ready Assessment scores required:
Applied mathematics: 4;
Locating information: 4;
Reading for information: 5;
Work Ready Certificate level required:
Silver.

GOAL

Perform complex and difficult diagnostic technical repairs on a variety of cars, trucks, buses and related equipment as required. Assignments are varied and are received in the form of oral or written work orders. Work is performed independently or in teams, and workers are responsible for determining appropriate work methods, tools, and materials for most assignments. Work involves serving as a crew leader for specified projects.

Work is performed according to general or specific instructions from a supervisor.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct the work of other skilled or semi-skilled staff for specified projects.
  • Mentor new and existing staff in work methods to ensure conformance with accepted standards including all regulatory requirements.
  • Inspect, evaluate, maintain and repair system’s fleet vehicles and maintenance equipment.
  • Diagnose vehicle problems, and evaluate components and failures.
  • Tear down and rebuild components, and assemble as required in the repair process schedule; assist with training courses for the qualified technicians to further their technical skills.
  • Utilize a wide variety of computerized diagnostic test equipment, standard tools, specialty tools and reference manuals.
  • Make visual inspections of vehicles to determine source of mechanical problems.
  • Accurately and timely complete paperwork for preventive maintenance records, inspection reports, repair orders and labor sheets.
  • Operate School District owned vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Provide instruction and technical advice to other technicians.
  • Assume duties of the Vehicle Shop Foreman if necessary.
  • Perform emergency road service and repair on-site, or request tow of defective equipment to appropriate Fleet Repair facility for repair.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working area.
  • Complete repairs within an acceptable time frame when compared to appropriate available flat rate repair manuals.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work successfully with individuals and groups from diverse educational, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination polices.
  • Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.
  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
  • Participate in training programs offered, increasing skill and proficiency related to the assignment.
  • Review and stay abreast of current developments, literature and technical source information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
