North American Renewables (NAR) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Engineering Manager to lead our capable and talented team of design engineers while serving as a trusted partner to the Director of Engineering.

This is an extremely unique opportunity as it is rare in the renewable EPC industry to have a team like this on staff. This individual will not only lead our team of extremely talented design engineering associates but will also work side by side with the remainder of the engineering team (including PE's, EITs, and engineering professionals) as part of our overall EPC team.

In this role, your team will be responsible for (on projects that NAR serves as the EPC Contractor) the development and creation of 30% all the way through stamped final construction drawings for all civil, electrical, and structural components (primarily) of ground mount solar fields and battery storage systems throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic regions. In addition, you will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with the construction side of our business as NAR self-performs the mechanical installation (foundations, racking and modules) with our proprietary equipment as you work alongside our sister company (PEC of CT) for the low voltage electrical installations.

Yes, your colleagues will construct the full electrical and structural systems from your drawings . Finally, you have a 40,000 SQ FT prefabrication and UL listed electrical manufacturing facility on site in Canton, MA where we drive Lean initiatives, manufacture our proven products, and control our destiny in the field. You'll watch products from your construction sets come to life a few hundred feet from your desk.

You'll have strong relationships with those in the field to drive continuous improvement efforts with constant feedback loops to feed into best practices and you'll work alongside those who define the standard in the DG markets in our region.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Team Management: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of design engineers, providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities. Assign projects based on team capacity, prioritize workloads, monitor progress, and ensure engineering deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Engineering Design: Lead the development of 30% to 100% solar and battery storage engineering drawings and design packages. Ensuring accuracy, consistency, constructability, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, and Client Design Standards.
  • Performance Modeling: Perform and oversee solar energy production modeling and system performance simulations using PVsyst. Evaluate system configurations, shading impacts, equipment specifications, system losses, and expected energy production to optimize system performance and ensure design assumptions align with project requirements and client expectations.
  • Engineering Standards and Process Improvement: Develop, implement, and maintain standardized design templates, CAD standards, engineering workflows, calculation methods, documentation procedures, and quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes. Identify opportunities to improve consistency, efficiency, and accuracy across the engineering function, and establish best practices that support repeatable, scalable project delivery.
  • Project and Resource Management: Manage multiple concurrent projects from initial design through final engineering deliverables, balancing project priorities, resource availability, and schedule requirements. Establish and monitor engineering milestones, communicate progress and potential delays, coordinate workload distribution, and ensure design packages are delivered on time and meet project scope, budget, quality, and client requirements.
  • Communication and Technical Documentation: Maintain clear communication with internal stakeholders regarding design status, engineering decisions, project risks, scope changes, and outstanding technical issues. Ensure engineering documentation, drawing revisions, design assumptions, and project records are properly maintained, organized, and accessible to support coordination, traceability, and project closeout.
  • Continuous Improvement and Team Performance: Monitor design team performance, identify recurring technical issues and process bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to improve productivity, quality, and turnaround times.…
