Seasonal Fine Gardener
Join as a seasonal fine gardener for the Trustees of Reservations and help care for the gardens at the Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate in Canton, MA.

Onsite, Limited Term (April–November) - Location:
Bradley Estate, Canton, MA
- Perform all duties related to the installation, maintenance, and care of permanent and seasonal plantings, including planting, weeding, watering, mulching, deadheading, pruning, and staking.
- Motivate and lead Wednesday volunteer group in maintenance and installation, ensuring accurate record‑keeping and proper plant identification.
- Maintain garden infrastructure such as irrigation systems, pathways, and water features, and manage trash cleanup.
- Interact with the public in a positive, cheerful manner.
- Collaborate with engagement staff, stewardship staff, and consultants on garden and landscape construction projects, providing technical guidance and occasionally leading garden tours.
- Adhere to policies and best practices for garden design and horticultural standards that respect historic integrity.
- Communicate regularly with the Senior Horticulturist and use Microsoft applications to report progress.
- A bachelor’s or associate’s degree in horticulture, botany, or a related field.
- At least three years of hands‑on experience in public garden settings, with a demonstrated progression of responsibilities.
- Knowledge or experience in arboriculture, perennials, annual displays, woody plant care, pruning, and related technical gardening skills.
- Strong horticultural care, conservation, and stewardship knowledge, with cataloguing experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work with staff, volunteers, and diverse public constituencies.
- A passion for The Trustees’ mission and values.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, lift up to 40 lbs, and work outdoors in all weather.
- Experience with hand and power tools, including maintenance and repair.
- Leadership experience supervising staff, interns, or volunteers.
- Availability for occasional nights and weekends.
- Preferred:
Certified horticulturist with five or more years of experience; pesticide applicator’s license.
- Current authorization to work in the United States.
- Valid driver’s license; required following the Trustees’ driving policy if job requires driving.
- Clean criminal background check.
- 40 hours of paid sick time upfront.
