Amazon Australia is seeking a full‑time WHS Specialist (WHSS) to serve as a designated safety professional for the assigned AMZL (Amazon Logistics) sites, coordinating and implementing all areas of the Amazon Global Safety Program as directed by the safety leadership. The WHSS promotes a positive safety culture while complying with Amazon safety standards and maintaining a safe work environment. This includes conducting trainings and coaching associates on observed work habits.
The WHSS must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. You will instruct and train associates, operations leaders and WHS coordinators in Amazon policies and procedures and assist the operations site teams in incorporating our standards at their site. You will work to identify best practices and incorporate these standard methodologies into our standards to continuously improve the landscape.
The WHSS is required to maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems. Leveraging lean principles and kaizens, WHSS will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce safety and ergonomic risk in our processes to ensure a safe and healthful working environment for our Associates. A successful WHS Specialist will demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the Operations Team and inspire change through providing comprehensive risk assessments and data analysis.
The WHSS will also support the site WHS manager on the development of the WHS Management System for Australia, establishment of adequacy of WHS procedures and training materials, maintaining compliance calendar, Austin tools, reviewing WHS documents and setting up inspection/audit programs, etc., to meet local requirements and Amazon Global WHS Standards (GEMS).
This role will support all AMZL sites in the metro area and may require travel between sites at regular intervals. This role may have alternating shifts.
Key job responsibilities- Oversee delivery of WHS objectives at the site, proactively collaborating on safety projects and providing advice and guidance on WHS matters.
- Ensure compliance with Amazon’s Workplace Health & Safety policies and global standards, completing risk assessments, measuring site performance, and analysing safety metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Conduct frequent site audits and inspections to identify and rectify non‑compliance issues with equipment and processes, and audit record‑keeping practices to align with global standards and regulations.
- Lead and mentor the on‑site safety team, identifying compliance issues, safety risks, and improvement opportunities; facilitate incident investigations and maintain required documentation, entering safety incidents in the database in a timely manner.
- Conduct safety observations and audits, provide targeted training, and participate in process improvement activities.
- Review metrics as published in the DDD dashboard.
- Identify metric callouts and allocate owners to discuss them in the DDD meeting.
- Moderate the WHS metrics/data discussion during the DDD meeting.
- Review investigation, root cause analysis and action plan submitted by the responsible manager, providing feedback as needed.
- 1+ years of workplace health & safety (WHS) related field experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study OR Cert IV
- Experience in emergency response
- Experience in workers’ compensation case management
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910
- Experience maintaining confidentiality in matters involving security or personnel issues in the workplace
