EligibilityApplicants must be a high‑school graduate or possess a G.E.D., hold a valid commercial driver's license Class A with Tank Endorsement, be a U.S. citizen or have a permanent resident card, and be at least 18 years of age.

General Statement of DutiesOperates trucks and other light‑heavy, mechanical construction equipment. Performs manual labor as necessary; all work as designated by a supervisor.
Distinguishing FeaturesCan operate all vehicles and equipment as specified for a Utility Operator 2/Semiskilled Laborer, plus roller, sweeper, tandem, flusher, and loader.
Examples of WorkDrives trucks for construction, cleanup, and city maintenance operations; handles and moves materials for storage, maintenance, or construction; involved in installation, maintenance, and repair of city facilities and infrastructure; may direct a crew assigned to them unless a supervisor is present; other related duties consistent with the above.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesA knowledge of all types of public works construction, maintenance, and repair. Full knowledge of city streets. Ability to follow oral and written instructions; good physical condition and attendance record; tactful public interaction; drive a truck and operate equipment; make minor repairs. Must maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tank Endorsement.
Acceptable Experience and TrainingTraining within City or experience with private contractor or combination of knowledge, training, and experience acceptable. Must be experienced truck driver with background in construction equipment.
ExaminationExam covers map reading, safety, mathematics, mechanical comprehension, general labor knowledge, public relations, and related areas. 60% passing score required.
Repeating ExaminationAccording to OAC Rule 123: 1‑9‑01, an applicant who has competed in a civil service examination cannot repeat the same exam within four months of the original date unless alternative exam given.
