PHYSICIAN - FM ASSISTANT PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
- United States Citizenship
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from a VA approved school
- Full and unrestricted state license to practice medicine or surgery in the United States or DC
- Completed residency in an accredited core specialty leading to board certification
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Board certified in psychiatry (preferred)
Basic Requirements
- United States Citizenship;
Non-citizens only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited - Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree
- Degree obtained from a school approved by VA for the year completed
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US State, Territory, or DC
- Residency training approved by VA Secretary in an accredited core specialty program and eligible for board certification
- Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) eligible while in residency but must be fully licensed physicians
- Preferred experience:
Board certified in psychiatry - Physical requirements – see VA Directive and Handbook 5019
Duties
- Provide ongoing psychiatric care to Veterans in an outpatient setting and manage a full array of diagnostic, therapeutic, and pharmacologic treatments
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations for Veterans with mental illness, psychosocial issues, homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support
- Identify patient problems requiring consultation with multidisciplinary medical and mental health staff and make appropriate referrals
- Ensure referrals to specialty programs, community resources, and mental health programs (PTSD, substance abuse, neuropsychology, case management, etc.) are completed
- Perform diagnostic assessments, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk and crisis interventions, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety, psychosis, PTSD, substance abuse, cognitive impairment)
- Participate in team meetings, treatment planning conferences, and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to enhance coordination of comprehensive patient care
- Order diagnostic tests, make treatment decisions, and document practice consistently with policies, procedures, and guidelines (JCAHO, CARF, VA standards)
- Work schedule:
Monday–Friday 8:00 am–4:30 pm
