GAI Consultants has a career‑building opportunity for a Traffic Engineer within our Transportation and Infrastructure Unit's traffic design group. GAI is an established and growing multi‑discipline engineering firm with tremendous growth opportunities. This position can be based out of multiple office locations and has the opportunity for a sign‑on bonus.

Responsibilities
  • Design traffic engineering elements including traffic signals, roadway lighting, signage and pavement markings, ITS infrastructure, and work zone traffic control.
  • Perform traffic analysis and modeling using Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Synchro, Sidra, and PTV software tools (Vissim/Vistro/Visum).
  • Collect and analyze safety data, including crash data review, crash rate calculations, and Highway Safety Manual (HSM) analysis.
  • Conduct traffic impact analyses related to development projects.
  • Prepare Transportation Management Plans for major roadway improvement projects.
  • Draft traffic‑related technical documents and reports.
  • Perform related field work and site visits.

  • Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields and can function on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Applies teamwork skills to effectively plan, execute, and manage scopes, schedules, and budgets to meet project stakeholder needs.
Minimum Years of Experience
  • 4+ years of experience.
Education
  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering.
Certification / Licensure
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Occasionally designs portions of a project, system, component, or process.
  • Prepares plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Designs and conducts analyses and interprets test data.
Project and Task Management
  • Occasionally assigns tasks to other technical and non‑technical staff.
  • Occasionally plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
  • Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects.
Management Responsibility
  • Receives general direction on key objectives and guidance on unconventional/complex problems.
  • Mentors junior staff by providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
Communication Skills
  • Communicates effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
