Job Title and Organization

LPN - HOPD ONCOLOGY at Aultman Health Foundation

General Statement of Duties

Provides professional medical care under supervision for clinic patients. The purpose of this position is to handle time‑consuming clerical responsibilities for the physicians within the practice.

Organizational Relationship

Reports directly to Director.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist physicians with documentation in the EHR in a non‑intrusive manner to ensure timely dictation and billing.
  • Gather and chart information pertaining to the patient health history, physical exam, diagnostic findings, lab and test results, consultations with other providers as part of care coordination, and patient instruction/education with attention to detail.
  • Directly observe patient encounters and document the events and decision‑making that result in accurate and appropriate medical charting.
  • Assist in the processing of electronic physician orders for radiology, lab tests, and medications in the EHR.
  • Comply with all policies related to scribing.
  • Be keyboard proficient.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Perform department‑specific work as required.
  • Comply with all statutory regulatory policies and procedures.
Know How
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed; taking vital signs; maintaining records and recording test results; developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public; maintain quality control standards; react calmly and effectively in emergency situations; interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures; communicate clearly.
Typical Physical Demands

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extensive periods. Requires occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

Working Conditions

Some exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Performance Requirements
  • Knowledge of medical practice and patient care; examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatment room procedures.
  • Tactful, understanding, and sympathetic in patient relationships.
  • Ability to recognize serious problems when triaging calls and to know how to get the patient serviced in a timely fashion using available resources.
  • Working knowledge of record‑keeping requirements of the Foundation, both medical and administrative.
Problem‑Solving & Accountability
  • Judgment required when dealing with different personalities of patients and medical staff.
  • Independent work within established policies; direct supervision from physician, Department Coordinator, or Director of Clinical Operations as needed.
  • Accountable for all care rendered; follow physician’s instructions explicitly; provide friendly and cooperative patient interactions; make accurate decisions regarding severity of problems; consult physician timely.
  • Use supplies and materials efficiently and monitor expiration status.
Education

Graduate of an accredited LPN program with active licensure.

Certificates / License

State of Ohio LPN license.
