Agency OverviewOpportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities empowers Ohioans with disabilities through employment, disability determinations, and independence. The agency partners with businesses, education, and non‑profit organizations to develop customized employment plans, and manages the state’s Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs.
Position OverviewAs a VRC, you will maintain a caseload of individuals with disabilities seeking competitive integrated employment (CIE). You will provide vocational rehabilitation counseling, collaborate with support teams, use labor‑market data, identify employment barriers, and connect participants to programs and opportunities.
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Duties- Interview individuals with disabilities to gather detailed information about work history and medical situation.
- Determine eligibility for vocational rehabilitation services.
- Interpret diagnostic information to assess participant needs.
- Advise individuals and families regarding strengths, limitations, and vocational goals.
- Collaborate with community providers to help participants achieve goals.
- Develop comprehensive individualized plans for employment (IPE) for participants.
- Highly organized with efficient time‑management skills.
- Strong analytical and research abilities.
- Excellent public relations and customer‑service skills.
- Proficient interviewing and computer skills.
- Collaborative, with ability to build rapport.
- Knowledge of the local labor market.
Starting salary is Step 1; advancement after 6 months and annually thereafter.
- At Hire: $29.08/hour – $60,486.00 annual
- 6 months: $30.43/hour – $63,294.00 annual
- 18 months: $31.74/hour – $66,019.00 annual
- 30 months: $33.35/hour – $69,368.00 annual
- 42 months: $34.96/hour – $72,717.00 annual
- 54 months: $36.65/hour – $76,232.00 annual
Position available in Canton and Mansfield. Day‑time travel within Ohio may be required.

Bachelor’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling, counseling, social work, psychology, disability studies, special education, business administration, human resources, economics or a related rehabilitation or human services area AND 24 months of direct work with individuals with disabilities.
OR Master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling, counseling, social work, psychology, disability studies, special education, or related rehabilitation or human services area.
OR Master’s degree in business administration, human resources, law, management, public administration or related field with competency in the employment sector and 12 months of direct work with individuals with disabilities.
