Job SummaryResponsible for broadband installation and troubleshooting activities for voice, video and data services. Completes field assessments, meets/exceeds company standards/metrics and completes the necessary certifications and training for current role and for consideration for advancement. Functions in an entry-level position with increasing proficiency and decreasing oversight to complete installation and troubleshooting tasks. Continued employment is contingent upon achieving required training, certifications and safety requirements.
Performs straight‑forward tasks using established procedures.
- Performs installations and changes of service while adhering to company procedures, safe work practices, National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and local ordinances.
- Services customer calls, troubleshooting drops from the tap to the customer’s equipment and designs basic home networks using coaxial cable, Ethernet, Wi‑Fi and Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA).
- Completes associated record keeping timely to ensure all work details are entered into the customer’s account.
- Determines acceptability of service by reviewing test results, adjusting or fixing service to provide the best possible result.
- Supports Wi‑Fi installation and trouble calls by determining appropriate device placement and Wi‑Fi network design, considering channel interference and utilization.
- Communicates and educates customers on products and services, including channel lineup, applications, usage, equipment and company policies.
- Cleans, maintains and stocks vehicle and equipment; reports vehicle repair needs, accidents, losses or property damage to supervisor and customer as appropriate.
- Reconciles with warehouse on issued CPE (customer premise equipment).
- Properly operates and maintains installation tools, technology and equipment such as hand tools, light power tools, meters and ladders.
- Demonstrates ability to navigate digital tools including work order management and digital diagnostics.
- Obtains and maintains necessary licensing and/or background checks based on federal, state or municipal requirements.
- Uses sound judgment in decision‑making, problem‑solving, project management and takes ownership of actions regardless of outcome.
- Performs jobs from high places (poles, roofs) using proper safety equipment and follows system requirements.
- Manipulates objects such as pens, keyboards, mice, connectors, fasteners and wire using hand tools.
- Lifts and carries loads of 70 lbs or more, works in confined spaces, stands 50–70% of the time, performs work near power lines and in moderate noise level environments.
- Works within equipment weight capacity and drives company vehicle safely and responsibly.
- Effectively communicates with customers and co‑workers, using vision and focus to operate tools and equipment.
- Works in various weather conditions including heat, cold and precipitation; shift may include weekends, evenings, holidays and mandatory overtime.
- Meets or exceeds established goals and performance metrics; maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance.
