SENIOR JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER

This position is a pool announcement with multiple positions to be hired.

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Senior Juvenile Probation Officer to work in Fort Myers, Florida. The successful candidate will be responsible for case management, referrals, recommendations, and assessments for youth and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct home and school visits to gather information and engage with youth and families.
  • Initiate contact with victims to obtain their opinions on case handling and disposition.
  • Use Motivational Interviewing to determine the social, developmental, emotional, financial, and other needs of youth and families.
  • Obtain and review collateral information from other agencies involved with the youth and family.
  • Conduct and document screenings and assessments to identify risk and needs.
  • Formulate case management strategies and make service referrals.
  • Testify at hearings and provide crisis intervention.

Court Process:

  • Act as the DJJ representative during court hearings.
  • Confer and advocate with attorneys on the Department's recommendations.
  • Prepare and maintain social histories, court reports, and related correspondence.

Case Management, Interventions, and Supervision:

  • Complete risk and needs assessments using Department-approved instruments.
  • Conduct face-to-face contacts with youth and families in various settings.
  • Maintain communication and follow up on actions taken.
  • Assist with obtaining mental health, substance abuse evaluations, and specialized testing and treatment.

Records Management:

  • Enter case management activities into the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS).
  • Upload required forms and documents into JJIS.
  • Organize and maintain hard copy or electronic records.

Community

Collaboration:

  • Provide contact information for community-based service providers.
  • Meet and maintain communication with schools, law enforcement, and other agencies.
  • Ensure familiarity with community resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of experience working directly with adolescents in a relevant field.
  • A valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference may be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree or higher.
  • One year of experience working with youth.
