Position Summary

Southeast Missouri State University is seeking qualified applicants for a full‑time staff position to primarily oversee the industrial equipment and associated lab facilities and provide training on this equipment in the Department of Engineering & Technology.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair equipment and tools, including working with others for service contracts or for repairs that cannot be done in house
  • Maintain records of equipment (including maintenance and inspection schedules, maintenance and operation instructions, and safety information)
  • Make recommendations and otherwise assist with the purchase and installation of new equipment
  • Manage and maintain inventory supplies
  • Teach courses for the Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center's machine tool program
  • Train users in equipment operation and techniques, explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, limitations and outcomes
  • Demonstrate safe operation of laboratory equipment and tools; conduct and organize workshops for students and faculty
  • Ensure faculty are properly trained in the safe and appropriate use of equipment and work with faculty to train their students
  • Report any unsafe working conditions and stop any activities that are unnecessarily hazardous
  • Conduct tours and demonstrations of the laboratory facilities
  • Maintain and update instruction videos for major equipment
  • Assisting with other activities to support the program or department
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and national certifications associated with machine tools, such as Skill Point certifications in CNC programming. Candidate must be qualified to teach at a Career and Technology Center. A bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach hands‑on, laboratory courses in areas such as material testing, industrial processes, machining, CAD/CAM, casting/metallurgy, and the design and fabrication of mechanisms
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise laboratories and industrial machinery, including ensuring the safety of users, maintenance and repair of equipment, maintenance of records, and effective implementation of new equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the department and work with industries in the region
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
