On Call RN - Operating Room

Overview

Works in the Operating Room with the primary role of taking call for all service lines with the exception of CVOR. This role ensures timely response to emergent and scheduled surgical cases outside of regular operating hours, supporting patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes. Adheres to AORN guidelines, providing high quality patient care. Adheres to Mercy policies and approved protocols. While utilizing operating room clinical knowledge and nursing judgement, provides on‑call coverage for:
General Surgery (including DaVinci robot procedures), Orthopedic, Urology, Neurosurgery, and GYN surgery.

• Unique scheduling opportunity: RN will provide call coverage for 7 consecutive days Mon‑Sun, performing on‑call duties and end‑of‑shift relief for cases extending past normal operating hours. This is followed by 7 days off call, during which the RN will be scheduled for three 8‑hour mid‑shifts (24hrs total).
• 30‑minute response time is required. Staying in house is not required***

• BSN to MSN Bridging Program – up to $16,000 to assist in obtaining your MSN

• Experience:
  
  2‑3 years of OR nursing experience is required.
• Required
  
  Education:
  
  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Licensure:
  Must obtain and maintain a current Missouri RN license and/or compact licensure; must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
• Certifications:
  
  Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association. AORN Certification preferred. Other unit‑specific certifications such as ACLS as required.
• Must be readily available outside of business hours during the call shift.
• Must respond promptly to on‑call notifications for surgical cases, ensuring readiness within required time frames. 30‑minute response time is required.
• Must be able to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
• Must work well within a team and delegate tasks appropriately.
• Physical requirements/demands:
  Must push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must stand and walk for prolonged periods. Must be able to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
