They are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to support the day-to-day accounting and tax functions of the practice. The successful candidate will maintain accurate client accounting records, process transactions, assist with reconciliations and statutory submissions, and help ensure that clients’ financial information is complete and up to date. This opportunity will suit someone who is methodical, dependable and comfortable taking ownership of their work.
Preference will be given to candidates who have completed SAIPA articles, have worked across the full accounting cycle and have previous experience in a firm of accountants.
MainDuties & Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate accounting records and process day-to-day client transactions across the accounting cycle.
- Maintain supporting documentation and orderly electronic filing systems.
- Assist with monthly management accounts and month-end close procedures.
- Prepare schedules and supporting information for accountants and internal management.
- Assist with VAT reconciliations and VAT
201 submissions. - Assist with payroll processing and EMP
201 and EMP
501 reconciliations or submissions, where required. - Support annual audits, independent reviews, compilations and financial year-end processes.
- Identify, investigate and resolve discrepancies in accounting records promptly.
- Liaise professionally with clients, colleagues, SARS and other third parties, as required.
- Perform other financial and administrative duties reasonably associated with the role.
- Work experience and industry exposure
- At least 2-3 years of relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Practical experience working across the full accounting cycle.
- Experience gained in an accounting practice would be advantageous.
- Experience preparing management accounts and supporting audit, independent review, compilation or year-end processes would be advantageous.
- Completed SAIPA articles would be a strong advantage.

- Highly organised, methodical and accurate, with strong attention to detail.

- Proactive in identifying discrepancies, resolving problems and keeping financial information up to date.
- Strong numerical ability and disciplined record-keeping skills.
- Willing to take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through on commitments.
- Specific Requirements
- A diploma or degree in Accounting, Financial Accounting, Finance or a related field is preferred; substantial relevant practical experience may be considered in place of a formal qualification.
- Sound understanding of bookkeeping principles, reconciliations and general ledger accounting.
- Working knowledge of VAT and basic South African tax and statutory requirements; role-specific in-house training will be provided where required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, together with general accounting software.
- Experience using Pastel, Excel and Case Ware would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with SARS systems and processes would be advantageous.
