We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety, Health & Environmental Officer to support project teams in maintaining a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible work environment within an industrial setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, promoting safe work practices, and supporting project execution across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure compliance with all applicable Occupational Health & Safety legislation and site safety standards
- Support the implementation and maintenance of Safety, Health & Environmental systems and procedures
- Maintain a safe working environment across project sites
- Identify workplace hazards and ensure risks are communicated effectively to employees and contractors
- Capture and manage contractor man-hours and compile required safety reports
- Conduct incident investigations with line management, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions
- Maintain project safety boards and relevant site documentation
- Support the safe execution of capital projects and safe work practices on site
- Assist with environmental compliance initiatives and monitoring programmes
- Review and audit contractor risk assessments and method statements before permits to work are issued
- Facilitate contractor safety meetings and daily site safety briefings
- Work overtime and weekends when required to support project activities
- National Diploma in Safety Management or relevant qualification (SAMTRAC advantageous)
- Sound knowledge of industrial safety regulations and compliance requirements
- Ability to identify operational and safety non-conformances
- 2–3 years’ experience in a Safety Officer or similar role
- Experience with in an industrial, manufacturing, or FMCG environment
- Strong presentation, reporting, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to coach, guide, and train teams on safety standards and practices
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage across all levels of the organisation
