Construction Health & Safety Officer

Introduction:

A leading construction company is looking for an experienced Construction Health & Safety Officer to join a major bulk water infrastructure project in the Western Cape. This is a long-term, site-based opportunity with an anticipated 42-month construction period
.

Key Performance Areas:

• Take full ownership of the site’s Health & Safety Plan and safety file.
• Compile risk assessments, method statements and permit-to-work systems.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits and ensure close-out of non-conformances.
• Investigate incidents and manage Section 24 reporting requirements.
• Conduct site inductions and weekly toolbox talks.
• Maintain statutory registers and legal appointments.
• Manage subcontractor safety files and conduct monthly compliance audits.
• Prepare monthly H&S reports for management, the H&S Committee and Client’s Safety Agent.

Requirements:

• SACPCMP registration as a Construction Health & Safety Officer (CHSO).
• 5+ years of experience on major civil engineering or bulk water infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of Legal Liability, Construction Regulations and the OHS Act.
• Experience in incident investigations, HIRA and Fall Protection.
• Valid Annexure 3 medical, including working-at-heights clearance.
• Code 08 driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
• Fluent in Afrikaans and English.
• Advantageous:
  Eskom ORHVS Responsible Person and/or SAECC Electrical Safety Officer certification.
