Requirements
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably a Masters’ Degree in Urban Design or an equivalent Planning Degree
  • Registration as a Professional Planner / Architect/ Urban Designer
  • 8 years or more relevant experience
  • Proficient at the level of professional urban design to undertake project initiation, policy and strategy formulation
  • Ability to understand and mediate between the informants of detail design, project implementation, socio-economic trends, spatial objectives and policy formulation
  • PC Literate: MS Office
  • A driver’s licence would be an advantage
Key Performance Areas
  • Manages complex strategic urban design, capital and planning projects
  • Prepares urban design strategies, principles, policies, guidelines and frameworks for the Community Services and Health Directorate
  • Provides specialist urban design guidance to development control and land disposal/acquisition processes
  • Manages the design and implementation of the Community Services & Health Precinct and Facility Development Programmes (as per the Sector Plan) and projects
  • Provides specialist advice and guidance to Strategic Planning and Development Projects, City-wide policies, programmes and projects
  • Manages the preparation of urban frameworks for the Community Services & Health Precinct and Facility Development Programmes (as per the Sector Plan)
  • Assesses and monitors compliance of urban development proposals on behalf of the Community Services & Health Directorate to urban design guidelines and policies
  • Facilitates the participation of relevant stakeholders in the identification, development and adoption of urban design strategies, policies and guidelines
  • Manages the spatial planning staff in the districts and coordinates the processes relating to the described job function
