Our client is an established company based in Cape Town, specialising in the design and supply of corporate office environments, workplace furniture and innovative office solutions.

They are looking for a creative and technically skilled Industrial Designer to join their team and play a key role in the development of innovative office furniture, acoustic solutions, privacy pods and workplace products.

This is an exciting opportunity for a designer who enjoys taking a product from an initial concept through to a fully developed, commercially viable and production-ready solution.

• Design and develop innovative office furniture, acoustic booths, privacy pods and workplace solutions.
• Develop concepts from initial sketches through to detailed 3D models, renders, prototypes and final production designs.
• Create products that balance functionality, aesthetics, ergonomics, durability and commercial viability.
• Apply user-centred design principles to create products suited to modern corporate working environments.
• Develop new product concepts in line with market trends and customer requirements.
• Assist with the ongoing development and improvement of existing product ranges.

• Research current workplace, furniture and interior design trends.
• Investigate customer needs and changing requirements within the corporate office environment.
• Research competitor products and identify opportunities for new product development.
• Contribute creative ideas and innovative solutions to expand and improve the company’s product offering.
• Stay informed of new materials, manufacturing techniques and sustainable design practices.

• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, renderings and product visualisations.
• Prepare technical drawings, product specifications and manufacturing documentation.
• Develop accurate designs suitable for prototyping and commercial production.
• Select appropriate materials, finishes, fittings, hardware and manufacturing methods.
• Ensure designs are practical, technically accurate and suitable for efficient manufacture.

• Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing and Production teams during product development.
• Assist with the creation and evaluation of prototypes.
• Participate in product testing, validation and refinement.
• Identify and resolve design or manufacturing challenges.
• Work with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure designs can be produced to the required quality and specification.
• Consider manufacturing costs, material availability and production efficiency throughout the design process.

• Identify opportunities to improve existing products in terms of functionality, appearance, cost and manufacturability.
• Assist with continuous product development and innovation.
• Ensure products meet relevant quality, safety and industry requirements.
• Maintain accurate design documentation and ensure products are developed in accordance with required standards.
• Support products from initial concept through to final production.

• Relevant qualification in Industrial Design, Product Design, Furniture Design or a related field.
• Previous experience in industrial, product or furniture design.
• Experience designing products for a commercial, corporate, workplace or furniture environment would be highly advantageous.
• Strong 3D CAD and product modelling skills.
• Experience developing products from concept through to production.
• Strong understanding of materials, finishes, manufacturing processes and product construction.
