About the Role

Our client is seeking a visionary Lead Urban Designer to spearhead innovative urban planning and design initiatives in Cape Town . This senior role involves shaping the future of urban spaces, focusing on sustainability, livability, and community integration. You will lead design teams, engage with stakeholders, and develop master plans that address the complex challenges of urban development. This is a key leadership position for someone passionate about creating vibrant, resilient, and socially equitable urban environments in the beautiful setting of the Western Cape .

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the conceptualization and development of large-scale urban design projects, from master planning to detailed design.
  • Facilitate public participation processes and stakeholder consultations to gather input and build consensus.
  • Develop design guidelines, policies, and frameworks for sustainable urban development.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, landscape architects, transport planners, and environmental consultants.
  • Present design proposals and reports to clients, local authorities, and community groups in Cape Town .
  • Mentor and guide junior urban designers and planners within the team.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in urban design and planning, with a proven track record of leading complex projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in urban design theory, sustainable design principles, and placemaking strategies.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Rhino , Grasshopper, Sketch Up, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong analytical, research, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in community engagement and stakeholder management within the South African context.
