Job Description & How to Apply Below

Hyperion Dev is one of the largest providers of accelerated tech education in EMEA and one of the oldest providers of 'coding bootcamps' in the world. We work with top universities such as Imperial College London, The London School of Economics, The University of Edinburgh, and Stellenbosch University to deliver structured technical courses and bootcamps that accelerate people into fulfilling tech careers.

We have been recognised as one of the top education technology scaleups in the world and gained the financial backing of Meta (previously Facebook) which recognised us as the most socially impactful startup operating in Africa, where we initially started our work.

We are dedicated to closing the global tech skills gap and we achieve this by integrating tech education with human mentorship and expert code review powered by a workforce in Southern Africa, which lowers the cost of an accessible education in technology. This model has been successful, allowing us to reach millions of learners a year from over 60 countries. We have also partnered with government bodies such as the UK's Department for Education who provide scholarships for students to study on our bootcamps and gain employment at companies such as AstraZeneca and the United Kingdom's National Health Service (NHS).

We're backed by nearly 2000 investors, having raised the largest crowdfunding round of funding for an edtech company in history. As a primarily bootstrapped, profitable, and scale up tech business join us as we play our part in making the world a more stable, safer, and fair place.

ABOUT

THE ROLE

The Coaching Team is part of the Education Operations Division sitting in the Career Services department at Hyperion Dev which focuses on “successful execution of our mission to provide high quality, affordable online coding education internationally”.

As the Career Coach at Hyperion Dev you will be working various timezones (after hour shifts) in the Career Services team to ensure that all our graduates are ready to be placed into tech careers after completing one of our coding bootcamps.

The Coaching team is responsible for providing high quality mentorship, workshops and high quality review/feedback on tasks submitted on our bootcamps. The broad objectives for the Coaching team are:

  • To improve student progress and graduation rates
  • To support learners getting an interview for a role
  • To support learners in landing an employment outcome
  • To improve the quality of mentorship and coaching for career progression and achieving their career milestones

Career coaching is when a coach and a Hyperion Dev learner/graduate work one-on-one to help reach career goals and full potential. Career coaches help with career planning, career changes, career advice, and other career decisions.

A career coach session will be unique and doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all job description, because a person’s career path is different and requires your personalised support. Therefore, it is important for this candidate to hold a strong proactive approach to problem solving.

A career coach helps our learners find the job they love, whether it is to upskill or re-skill within their organisation or carving out an entirely new career path that aligns with the purpose of their work.

Key subjects a career coach can assist with:

  • Navigate career transitions
  • Assist those wanting to explore the self-employment route
  • Provide career advice
  • Help job seekers with job interview skills (including practising mock interviews)
  • Assist with career planning
  • Help to set career goals and long-term professional goals
  • Explore new career options and opportunities
  • Advise on how to build your personal brand and reviewing of key profiles (CV, Linked In, Github)
  • Find work-life balance by setting boundaries and examining priorities
  • Assist in the job search process
