job purpose

to support the faculty and department in pursuit of its academic and research objectives which include to: teach according to 3 set syllabus; undertake research and innovation; contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in work integrated learning and develop service-learning activities.

teaching responsibilities
  • teach applied and theoretical subjects across all four years
  • teach videography across all three years
  • teach photoshop and other relevant photo editing software applications
job knowledge, skills and experience
  • a masters degree in photography, preferably from a uot, or an institution that specialises in commercial photography (the candidate must have obtained all the undergraduate underpinning qualifications within the field of study)
  • at least two (2) years' relevant experience in higher education
  • substantive experience of the standards and practices of the specialist knowledge of current photographic technology
recommendations
  • at least two years' experience in any area of professional, commercial photography
key performance areas / principal accountabilities
  • effective teaching of commercial photography on all levels
  • knowledgeable teaching of dslr & mirrorless camera videography on all levels
  • full utilisation of learner management system, blackboard
  • assisting students with projects and assignments
  • full contribution to co‑ordination and execution of student and departmental projects and assignments
  • substantive contribution to departmental service‑learning projects
  • management of photography programme's photographic equipment, and contributions to the upgrading of facilities on an ongoing basis
  • participate in curriculum development, courseware development and assessment
  • effective management of marks administration system
  • perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the department
  • participate in the quality assurance activities of the department
  • promotion of community participation and linkages
  • develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies on cooperative education, new techniques/technologies, and research projects
  • attending and contributing to staff meetings, committees, programme design and all academic activities
  • assist with marketing and recruitment activities; contributes to the planning for "open day",
  • attends open day and provides information on faculty courses
  • safety/ management: ensures compliance with safety rules
  • perform other functions as may be assigned by the head of department
