About Our Client

TMA Proactive Partners has been exclusively retained by a warm, professional family based in Cape Town to recruit an exceptional Family Coordinator & Child Development Mentor
.

This is not a traditional nanny or domestic worker position. Our client employs a cleaner to manage household cleaning, allowing this role to focus entirely on the children's development, education, wellbeing and the smooth coordination of family life.

The successful candidate will support two daughters, aged 17 and 8, helping to create a structured, nurturing and engaging home environment that encourages confidence, independence, healthy habits and personal growth.

Our client is seeking someone who is naturally proactive, highly organised, emotionally intelligent and genuinely passionate about supporting children to reach their full potential.

The Role

The successful candidate will take ownership of the children's afternoon and evening routines, educational support, healthy lifestyle, organisation and enrichment activities.


Child Development & Educational Support

  • Support homework, assignments, projects and examination preparation.
  • Encourage independent learning, responsibility and accountability.
  • Develop age-appropriate routines that support academic success.
  • Monitor school calendars, assessments, extracurricular activities and important deadlines.
  • Foster curiosity, confidence, creativity and critical thinking.
  • Reinforce positive values, manners, discipline and respect.
  • Adapt your approach appropriately to meet the differing developmental needs of both a teenager and a younger child.

Family Coordination
  • Manage the children's daily schedules and routines.
  • Ensure uniforms, school bags, stationery and activity requirements are prepared in advance.
  • Coordinate extracurricular activities, appointments and commitments.
  • Maintain an organised family calendar.
  • Keep parents proactively informed of important updates, upcoming events and any concerns.
  • Anticipate family needs and take initiative without requiring constant direction.

Device-Free Engagement
  • Create a structured environment that encourages limited recreational screen time during working hours.
  • Plan engaging alternatives including:

    • Reading
    • Arts and crafts
    • Outdoor activities
    • Exercise
    • Educational games
    • Creative projects
    • Personal development activities
  • Encourage healthy routines and meaningful family interaction.

Healthy Meal Planning & Preparation
  • Prepare fresh, healthy and nutritious family meals.
  • Plan balanced weekly menus.
  • Prepare healthy snacks.
  • Assist with grocery planning.
  • Maintain a clean and organised kitchen after cooking.

Strong cooking skills and a genuine interest in healthy eating are essential.

Household Organisation

  • Keep the children's bedrooms, wardrobes and study areas organised.
  • Ensure children's belongings are well maintained.
  • Encourage independence and responsibility for personal spaces.
  • Create practical organisational systems that contribute to a well-run household.

Please note: This role does not include general household cleaning duties.

Activities & Enrichment

  • Research educational, cultural and recreational activities around Cape Town.
  • Plan enriching outings during weekends and school holidays.
  • Organise experiences that promote learning, creativity and confidence.
  • Occasionally accompany the family on local or international travel.

Requirements Qualifications

A degree, diploma or recognised qualification in one of the following (or a closely related discipline):

  • Education
  • Child Psychology
  • Educational Support
  • Human Development

Equivalent experience working extensively with children may also be considered.

Experience
  • Previous experience working with children or families.
  • Experience in teaching, tutoring, childcare or educational support.
  • Excellent cooking skills.
  • Strong organisational and planning ability.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities.
  • Professional, contactable references.

Working Hours

Monday to Saturday: 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Sunday: Day off

This position requires flexibility to support the family's routine, including occasional school events, family functions, holidays and travel and may require overnight stay.
