Curro seeks to appoint YES Programme Candidate:Laboratory Assistant (part-time) at Curro Durbanville in Durbanville to commence duties in January 2027

Curro Durbanville High School is calling YOU to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant (YES Candidate). This is your chance to support teachers, inspire learners, and build practical skills that will shape your future career.

Key performance areas
- Prepare laboratories and practical work areas for Physical Sciences and Life Sciences lessons.
- Assist teachers with demonstrations, experiments, and practical assessments.
- Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and materials.
- Prepare and label solutions, reagents, and biological specimens.
- Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and laboratory waste.
- Maintain accurate inventories of equipment, chemicals, and consumables.
- Support procurement processes by liaising with suppliers and checking deliveries.
- Keep laboratory records, schedules, and safety documentation up to date.
- Reinforce safety rules and procedures with learners during practical sessions.
- Communicate effectively in both English and Afrikaans with staff and learners
Qualifications, experience and skills
- South African youth between 18 and 34 years old
. - Stipend range: R5 241,00 – R6 000,00 per month.
- Must be previously unemployed
. - A tertiary qualification in Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Biology, Laboratory Technology or related field would be advantageous.
- Previous laboratory experience in a school or scientific environment (advantageous).
- Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and safety practices.
- Computer literacy – Microsoft Office and general applications.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and Afrikaans
. - Comfortable working with high‑school learners in a professional environment.
- A valid driver’s licence and police clearance certificate (advantageous).

This is a stipend-based opportunity (not a salary).
This is a 12-month contract position
