Mechanical Engineer; Public Health​/Wet Services

The candidate will contribute to the delivery of multidisciplinary projects, taking responsibility for defined design packages while developing consulting coordination and client engagement skills under the guidance of senior engineers.

• Able to perform full plumbing and drainage design and calculation in accordance with SANS 10252 and SANS 10400.
• Able to perform full plumbing and drainage design and calculation in accordance with EN BS Standards.
• Able to perform design and calculations according to the IPS or UPC would be advantageous.
• Perform design and BIM modelling, and/or CAD drafting would be advantageous.
• Fundamental understanding of HVAC, Medical Gases, Mechanical Utilities, Fuel System Design, Vertical Transportation and/or Fire Engineering Services will be highly advantageous.
• Ability to work independently on defined work packages.

• Handle project scoping, scope monitoring, and cost control related to Wet Services systems.
• Proficient in preparing tender documentation and managing the tender process.
• Competent in the formulation of Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
• Oversee contractor and contract management within the mechanical discipline.

• Apply logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
• Make sound judgments and decisions using both deductive and inductive reasoning.
• Use scientific principles to solve complex engineering problems.

• Effectively convey information, both written and oral.
• Possess excellent communication and technical report-writing skills.

• Ensure quality control (QA/QC) throughout project stages.
• Conduct site inspections and monitor construction progress.

• Must have a B Eng / BSc / B Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience.
• Must have minimum 3 years post-graduation working experience.
• Experience related to Mechanical engineering, specifically Public Health/ Wet Services, designs and construction monitoring on either or multiple of the following sectors will be advantageous:
  • Data Centres
  • Healthcare Facilities
  • Clean Rooms
  • Advanced Manufacturing
• Must have a good understanding and working knowledge of Revit and BIM
  360.
• Experience in HVAC, Medical Gases, Mechanical Utilities, Fuel System Design, Vertical Transportation and Fire Engineering Services will be highly advantageous.
• Individual currently in employ of a consulting entity will be preferred.
• Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng eligible for professional registration will be advantageous.

• Code B drivers licence (preferably own car).
• Computer literacy (programming skills will be advantageous).
• Experience in various Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, BIM
  360 suite).
• Must be self‑motivated.
• Task orientated.
• Team player.
• Excellent communicator and good discussion and problem resolution skills.
• A self‑starter who can run with and manage his own projects with the guidance of a senior engineer.
• Skilled in fluid‑dynamics and pipe network design principles.
• Skilled in thermodynamics for water heater systems.
• Must be responsible and have a high level of self‑sufficiency and be able to apply common sense.
• Must have a questioning and inquisitive mind.
• Willing and able to travel.
