Activities

This is a skilled, site based civil engineering position responsible for the supervision and management of civil engineering activities during construction of renewable energy projects (solar PV and wind projects, including associated works). It includes civil engineering design and specification reviews required by the Engineering Manager, procurement review and acceptance, and all construction supervision activities including quality control, HSE compliance, design and specification compliance, method statements, risk assessments and visual inspections of all civil related work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the general day‑to‑day support to the Construction Manager and Project Director and site supervision (civil engineering) of construction of the relevant Project.
  • Ensuring compliance of the project, identifies optimal solutions from a technical and execution perspective at construction stage of solar PV and wind projects, and interconnection works.
  • Ensuring technical compliance (civil engineering) with Project documents during construction.
  • Ensuring compliance with Employers Requirements/Specifications and other contractual schedules during construction.
Construction supervision
  • Monitor Civil Engineering construction progress against the project time schedule.
  • Meeting tight deadlines and manage costs within sphere of influence to ensure that project expenditure is within budget.
  • Liaising with the BOP Contractor(s), including subcontractors and design consultants.
  • Prepare management presentations and generate periodic reports with the progress status of the Project.
  • Such other duties that may be required from time to time within the general scope of the position.
  • The role description should develop along with the changing demands of the projects’ objectives and priorities.
Candidate Profile
  • BEng/BSc/BTech (Civil Engineering)
  • 5+ years’ experience (renewable energy experience would be an advantage).
  • Awareness and understanding of civil balance of plant (PV solar and Wind projects).
  • Awareness and understanding of the relevant technical codes, regulations and standards relating to renewable energy projects in South Arica.
  • Experience of the application and understanding of the guidelines and specifications relevant to civil engineering in South Africa.
  • Requires an organised approach to working, task prioritisation and time management.
  • Take ownership of meeting deadlines and drive tasks to completion
  • Strong initiative and the ability to proactively identify required tasks.
  • Able to work independently and in groups
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in renewable energy projects
  • Fluent in English and ability to speak/read/write one additional language
  • Willingness to travel and site based.
  • A valid Driver’s license
