Position SummaryAs a Junior Engineer in the commercial sector, you will start in an entry‑level role, working closely with senior engineers to develop into a full‑fledged Project Engineer. This position requires a proactive approach, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to learn on the job. You will play a key role in supporting the design, project management, and commissioning of PV and BESS systems, contributing to projects from the sales phase through to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities- Site Inspections:
Conducting detailed site surveys at Engen's locations to evaluate solar energy potential, including shading analysis, roof or ground space availability, and structural integrity. - Detailed Engineering Design:
Produce full sets of precise engineering drawings and schematics such as SLDs, GAD, etc using CAD software, ensuring all designs meet industry standards and project requirements for Engen's energy demands. Make recommendations and observations and be an integral part of the design process. - Yield Analysis:
Execute thorough yield simulations and analyses using advanced software like PVSol, assessing the viability and optimization of proposed PV and BESS installations. - Technical Analysis:
Performing energy simulations and feasibility studies to assess the performance, efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness of proposed solar solutions for Engen's facilities. - Project Leadership:
Lead and participate in site kick‑off meetings, with construction managers, providing clear direction and technical guidance to ensure smooth project initiation and adherence to timelines. - Project Management Support:
Assist in the overall management of projects, including scheduling, resource allocation, and tracking project milestones to ensure on‑time and on‑budget delivery. - Commissioning:
Support the commissioning process alongside construction/site managers by collaborating with on‑site teams, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring that systems are operationally ready and compliant with all standards. - Documentation:
Oversee the preparation and finalization of As‑Built design packages, ensuring that all project engineering documentation is accurate, complete, and reflective of the installed systems. - General Duties:
Oversee site monitoring and implement fixes; carry out additional reasonable tasks assigned by the engineering team or management; follow all instructions, reporting requirements, and project protocols set by supervisors. - Travel Requirements:
This role requires regular travel between Zambia and Cape Town to support project installations, site assessments, commissioning activities, and client or contractor coordination. Travel may include short‑notice trips for urgent site inspections or project‑related requirements. Candidates must be willing and able to travel internationally as part of their normal duties. A valid passport and the ability to comply with cross‑border travel requirements are essential.
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of technical experience in an in solar PV, electrical, or related engineering support roles, preferably within the renewable energy or construction sectors.
- Proficiency in using software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Strong understanding of engineering documentation and technical reporting.
- Detail‑oriented with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Basic understanding of solar PV systems and electrical principles.
- CAD proficiency or willingness to learn.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
