The Opportunity
Our client is an established consulting engineering and project management firm seeking a Civil Engineer with strong planning and design experience. The role will work across municipal infrastructure and development projects, including new developments, bulk infrastructure, urban development, housing and commercial, industrial and warehousing projects.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and design civil infrastructure for new and existing developments.
- Undertake feasibility studies, concept development and detailed engineering design.
- Design and coordinate municipal infrastructure and associated civil services.
- Provide civil engineering input into urban development, township, residential, low-cost housing and informal settlement projects.
- Design civil infrastructure associated with commercial, industrial and warehousing developments.
- Contribute to bulk infrastructure, earthworks, development platforms, roads and stormwater infrastructure.
- Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports, cost estimates and tender documentation.
- Apply engineering judgement to resolve design challenges and provide practical technical solutions.
- Take ownership of assigned civil engineering design deliverables, ensuring quality, technical accuracy and timely delivery.
- Review design outputs and documentation to ensure technical accuracy, quality and compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.
- Coordinate civil designs with planners, architects and other engineering disciplines.
- Provide technical support during construction and project implementation.
- Assist with project management, programme and budget monitoring.
- Liaise with municipalities, clients, contractors, government stakeholders and multidisciplinary professional teams.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, specifications and municipal requirements.
- BSc / BEng in Civil Engineering or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- 12+ years' relevant civil engineering experience, preferably within a consulting engineering environment.
- Strong civil engineering planning and design experience, with hands-on responsibility for infrastructure design.
- Strong proficiency in Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
- Experience in urban, land, township or residential development projects.
- Experience with bulk infrastructure and development services.
- Project management and/or project delivery experience.
- Strong communication, coordination and teamwork skills.
- ECSA professional registration.
- Provincial government infrastructure project experience would be advantageous.
- Construction monitoring and contract administration experience would be advantageous.
- Valid driver's licence where required for the role.
- Civil infrastructure planning and design.
- Roads and stormwater infrastructure.
- Bulk infrastructure, earthworks and development platforms.
- Preparation of engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Tender documentation and specifications.
- Engineering calculations and technical report writing.
